Description

These teaching tips detail how I implement each of the Meal Math resources from the Unit Bundle. In my classroom, the Meal Math Unit takes 12 days to complete. Each day is structured so students are required to do minimal or no work outside of the school day. I encourage partner/group participation with all of the activities. These activities are structured so students can be pretty independent from me. There is little instruction/explanation needed that is not already included on the worksheets, but I do walk around constantly offering guidance and assistance as needed.

This Meal Math Unit Bundle showcases real-life math in the kitchen & in nutrition, focusing on percentages to help students sharpen these skills, as well as develop logical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and mathematical modeling. Actual recipes form the foundations of the activities and extend to fast food. Along the way, students gain a broader understanding of their food choices & the implications of those on their personal health. Appropriate for math or consumer science classrooms.
