Description

A reading comprehension and visual analysis worksheet designed to support teaching of the picture book The Rabbits (1998) by John Marsden and Shaun Tan. Perfect for secondary English studying visual texts and visual language, or to supplement units on Australian history.

This 12 page resource contains 6 different activities and a creative extension task, which will keep your students engaged for several lessons. The questions progress from low to high level skills:

  1. Predictions
  2. Knowledge and Comprehension (basic questions such as who, what, where etc).
  3. Short answer Comprehension Questions
  4. Application of summary and storyboarding skills
  5. Visual Analysis
  6. Noticing the Little Details

Use as a great introduction to the text, as a homework, revision or extension task, or a simple lesson to set for relief. This resource could be used as one complete booklet, or divided up into specific activities, to best suit your class.

Students are supported with sentence starters, a scaffolded extended response, hints about key terms such as epilogue and allegory. There are also several extension activities designed to engage your higher ability students too.
