Description

Do you use EngageNY math in your third grade classroom? Have you tried using it for Math Workshop? No, but you'd like to? You might enjoy this file, then!

This is not supplement to Eureka Math. You will not find any extra quizzes, tests, or worksheets in this file. This is just my outline of how I am taking this program, attempting to follow it as closely as possible, while still making it interesting and fun for the students, and while keeping as many as possible on task. It is in Power Point format, making the text fully editable. You can follow my ideas, or edit them to add your own. I've also added a Lesson Notes box at the bottom of each plan page to record thoughts and ideas for next year.

The program can be rather intensive, and by using a Math Workshop approach, I found that I can reach more students and hold their attention longer, by giving them more chances to work together, move around the room, and have fun with math.

These plans are based on a 90 minute math class. We start each class with a warm up. This for us is the fluency and application problems, which we do together (partners for the application problems in workbooks that I typed up, and then together with a Power Point). This usually takes about 20 minutes.

Then we move on to our four rotations. They are:

Meet with the teacher – This is where I do Concept Development and START the problem set with students. It states 30 minutes for this in Eureka / EngageNY’s plans, but this generally only takes my small groups 15 to 20 minutes. I try my best to keep it at 15.

At Seat – We move from Meet with the Teacher to this station. They bring their workbooks (printed at the beginning of the module from the practice and homework pages) that the started with me at Meet with the teacher and take these to their seats to finish. I actually only have three groups this year, so I was able to arrange it so that no one starts out at this station. Which works very well. Otherwise, I’d try to arrange it so that your highest students started here, the ones who need the least amount of help.

Tech Station – We work on the Zearn lesson that matches the lesson for the day. Sometimes students have to finish this later in the day. We’re lucky to have one to one Chromebooks, so this makes it a bit easier.

Hands On – I try to have a game, task cards, or manipulative activity out at this station. These are things I taught to the whole class during the first few days of school, before we started with Math Workshop.

Thanks for downloading and giving these plans a try!

Loved this resource. Eureka has a lot of information that quickly becomes overwhelming. These lessons help me to focus on the task at hand and keep students engaged at the same time. Thank you very much.
