Description

This Multiplying Monomials - Simplifying Exponents Exponent Target Practice will be a big hit with you students. The 2 versions include one with negative exponents and one without to target specific skills and differentiate.

Your students begin at the center circle of the target and multiply that expression by each of 8 monomials around the next circle.

You can use these practice pages 3 ways to differentiate:

  1. Use as Cut & Paste matching
  2. Not a fan of cut and paste? Have students write in answers or answer letters
  3. Cut off Right side and use as Free response

There are 8 problems on each page but students choose from 10 answers making this more challenging. This is set up for easy grading by using a lettering system for the answers.

Students can color and embellish the target when done.

Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical expressions. For example, 3² × (3⁻⁵) = (3⁻³) = 1/3³ = 1/27.
Interpret parts of an expression, such as terms, factors, and coefficients.
Use the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. For example, see 𝘹⁴ – 𝘺⁴ as (𝘹²)² – (𝘺²)², thus recognizing it as a difference of squares that can be factored as (𝘹² – 𝘺²)(𝘹² + 𝘺²).
