Graphing Performance Task

Tier Rankings are all over social media right now! Kids are loving to rank and discuss their opinions in "tier lists". This task has students make a tier list and present it on a coordinate plane. Use this as an intro to graphing, review of graphing, or a "Get to Know You" back to school activity. This is a "they don't even know they're doing math" activity!

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane; recognize that when two ordered pairs differ only by signs, the locations of the points are related by reflections across one or both axes.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.
Understand that the graph of an equation in two variables is the set of all its solutions plotted in the coordinate plane, often forming a curve (which could be a line).
