Transformations Unit: Inquiry and Self-Discovery Activities
This resource focusses on algebraic rules associated with transformations, specifically reflections and rotations. This transformative unit is designed to empower your students with inquiry-based learning and self-discovery activities, guiding them towards a deeper understanding of transformations.
What's Included:
- Inquiry and Investigation: Your students will embark on an exciting journey of inquiry, delving into algebraic rules related to reflections over the x and y axes, as well as rotations about the origin. Through thought-provoking activities, they will explore the fundamental principles behind these transformations, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- The inquiry activities are finding the algebraic rules for reflecting over the x axis, over the y axis and the y=x line as well as algebraic rules for each 1/4 turn rotation about the origin. These inquiry activities are scaffolded versions of Investigations from MYP.
- General Practice and Notes: The unit also covers essential notes on translations, reflections, and rotations. Your students will have ample opportunities for hands-on practice and exploration, solidifying their grasp on these core concepts through suggested IXL links, Brain Pop videos and 2 specific worksheets.
Prerequisite Knowledge:
Please note that this product is designed for students who have prior exposure to transformations and are building on their existing skills. If your students are encountering transformations for the very first time, I recommend exploring introductory materials before using this unit.
Two-Week Curriculum:
