Description
In this activity, students find the centroid of a triangle by finding the median of each side using a ruler. They then cut out the triangle and try to balance it on the tip of a pen or pencil. If done correctly they should be able to balance it and see why the centroid in nicked "the balancing point" of a triangle. It is a fun little activity that most students enjoy. Many of them are determined to get it to balance. There are 6 different triangles included. I typically give each student one to try and spend about 10-15 minutes on this activity. It could be made into a pairs or group activity if they given all 6 triangles.
