Start with the Scribb Notes for students just learning the basics of integers. Follow that with the 24-page PowerPoint lesson that introduces the concept of positive and negative numbers, comparing numbers on the number line, opposites, absolute value, reading absolute values, the opposite of an absolute value, and evaluating expressions with absolute value bars. Multiple "Your Turn" slides gives students the opportunity to practice each skill before moving on either individually or in small groups. Answers are included as part of the presentation.
The interactive notes are written to go with the PowerPoint presentation giving students a complete set of notes for these skills. The interactive notes could also be used separate from the PowerPoint. Two pages of student practice problems gives you even more options - check understanding, partner or small group work, homework assignment, or formative assessment.
Next, if's time to let your students investigate positive and negative numbers (Integers). The activity starts with defining positive and negative numbers, understanding integers on the number line, real-life integers, comparing integers, the meaning of zero, and opposite numbers. Students can work alone, in pairs, or small groups. Students then continue to use integers in a card game and challenge problem. An assessment menu is also included in this bundle. The packet includes a 10-page student investigation, teacher answer key, and teacher notes.
A more formal assessment of integers is also included, along with an answer key.
