I use the Understanding Word Problems lesson as the first lesson in my sixth grade math classes each year. It teaches the students how to pull relevant information from word problems, and also provides clear expectations for how to present their answers. This lesson serves an additional purpose as a review of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing multi-digit numbers.
I typically assign both videos in one night. Students watch the lesson video and take notes in the packet, then answer the "Independent Practice" problems in the packet. Finally, they watch the solutions video and correct their work.
