Description

Do your students need more practice finding a unit rate, a unit price, or using a unit rate to solve word problems? This editable Illustrated Math Ad Lib problem solving activity is full of fun while also providing accessible problems that help your students gain fluency with unit rate problems and develop proportional reasoning.

How does it work?

In this editable Math Ad Lib activity, you will hang up 10 math problems around the room. Once students solve a problem, they will have 4 multiple choice answers to select their answer from. Each answer corresponds with a word. These word answers will fill in the blanks to create a silly Math Ad Lib story!

How can I customize it?

Students love it when their teachers, their peers, and their interests star in these stories! You can edit the words to fit your students. There is also a blank customizable slide included if you need to change any of the problems to fit your specific classroom.

Students love to illustrate these silly stories! You may even get asked to hang them in the hallway.

As a teacher, it is very quick and easy to check which problems a student has right and wrong when reading their stories!

Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
