Description
This packet of 400+ real words is an excerpt from my first book, Common Core Teaching for Foundational Reading Skills. It includes VC and CVC word lists to support whole word decoding instruction* in single syllable phonics skills outlined in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy. It also includes brief scripted language to teach the Bossy E and Two Vowels Go Walking.
Purchasers of this packet are permitted to copy the word lists for any student, teacher, parent/guardian or paraprofessional associated with their school!
*Whole word decoding is a phonics technique designed to be implemented AFTER students receive instruction in the traditional process of segmenting and blending sounds in words. Whole word decoding activities give students the multiple opportunities they need to develop automaticity in decoding words. Each student in a small group gets an opportunity to individually decode 20 or more words within a 15-20 minute session. With traditional segmenting and blending instruction, an individual student may only decode 5-10 words, and often only as part of a choral response. These lists are an excellent resource to use for one-on-one tutoring as well. Programs developed by Lindamood-Bell, Wilson, and other Orton-Gillingham-based programs use lists like these in their remedial programs.
