A MEANINGFUL PERFORMANCE TASK ASSESSMENT!

This activity is one that can be made so meaningful, to students, especially if there is a Venus fly trap in the classroom. I bought one from the grocery store for less than $5! Carnivorous plants are such a hit with young students, use this as a great teaching focus!

The problem can be posed that you are unsure of how to take care of the plant and need the students’ help to understand what the Venus fly trap needs to live, whether you have one or are thinking of getting one. Students then answer the questions you have using one of the leveled readers in this download.

The questions are on the seventh page and the students should color code the questions and the “right there” answers in the text. Then, when students have answered all of the questions, ask them to write you a letter about how to take care of the plant. There is a template for letter writing on the eighth page of this download.
