Looking for a weekly writing morning work activity? Weekend journals are a great way to engage students in writing! I have found this tool especially effective in helping me to better get to know my students outside of school... especially in September! :) I copy them monthly and provide enough journal pages based on the number of weeks in each month. After each journal entry (usually done on Monday morning), I include a writer's checklist where the students must go back and edit/revise their worse. After they complete their entry, they get with a partner to partner read and edit/revise their entry. This has certainly helped to build partnerships in my classroom. It is also a great means of informal writing assessment as well as progress monitor growth over the year.
