Description

Find all the tools you need here to teach about the science of emotions, build emotional regulation skills, increase self awareness, and engage in artistic expression with students of all ages.

This lesson kit includes:

  • Complete, flexible unit plan with grade level adaptations and tips
  • Editable accompanying slideshow
  • Interactive Emotional Regulation GLAD inspired chart
  • Read Aloud Guide
  • Arts Integration Guide
  • Student Art Project Template

In this lesson, students will learn what emotions are, how they impact our bodies and what they can do for us. Through collaborative discussion, students will explore how different emotions translate into big feelings and collectively brainstorm tools that we can use to help regulate our emotions.

The class will add to a ‘living wall’ emotions chart as they listen to the children’s story The Color Monster, before finally creating a piece of original artwork where they design a monster to represent a big emotion or feeling that they have had lately. These pieces of artwork can then be transformed into a feelings wall, a permanent fixture in the classroom to support continued student self-reflection and self-awareness.
