Helping kids practice their math strategies with abstract materials can be difficult. Using themed materials can help. The Winter Olympics and World Games are great motivators for this time of the year.
These math addition task cards have a winter sports theme. They are for practicing various strategies used with addition. There are 48 different cards and 8 different addition strategies practiced. An answer sheet and an answer key are also included. This can be differentiated by choosing only the strategies that you are focusing on.
Cards A-F Using 3 addends by making 10 (adjacent addends)
Cards G-L Using 3 addends by making 10 (separated addends)
Cards M-R Using 2 addends by using doubles
Cards S-X Using 2 addends by using doubles plus one
Cards Y-d Finding missing addends
Cards e-j Adding with double digit addend and single digit addend
Cards k-p Adding double digit addends without regrouping
Cards q-v Adding double digit addends with regrouping
I have also included worksheets for each strategy for extra practice.
