Do your students struggle when solving math word problems? Try out this set of strategies that integrate reading strategies with effective math word problem strategies. These printable posters are designed to support addition and subtraction as well as multiplication word problems.

This resource will help students to understand word problems and how to effectively use the Read, Draw, Write strategy. Read, Draw, Write is a word problem solving strategy suggested in the Engage NY math modules, as well as in Eureka Math.

These ready-to-print, problem-solving posters reflect the Read, Draw, Write strategy, some student suggestions, along with, some of my own thinking about problem-solving. Use of reading comprehension strategies and math processes are reinforced.

Also, included are posters to model each step for both addition and multiplication problems. These models will help students understand how to apply the steps to problems.

Ideas for use of this resource:

•Use as a visual for mini-lessons on problem-solving

•Display as references after teaching

•Use student bookmarks with small groups, in math notebooks or at desks

•Send bookmarks home for references

•Use reflection goal-setting sheet to help students progress

•Use checklists for self-evaluation or to provide specific feedback

•Use to differentiate instruction by areas of success and struggle
