Description
What you hear is not always what you read. This activity is geared toward students who skip words when they read and don't like tracking. There are 6 audio files in this download with 6 accompanying texts (2 beginner, 2 intermediate, and 2 difficult). Each audio file has a series of sounds or words; some are stories, one is common ambient sounds.
Students listen to each audio file and follow along on the corresponding text file. There are several discrepancies between each audio file and the corresponding text file. Students must use their owl eyes and elephant ears to catch each one.
Use the sound files in the “Full Sound Files” folder. If you want to make your own sequence of sounds and accompanying word-sound worksheet, I’ve included many sample sounds in the “Individual Sound Files - Make Your Own” folder.
Students will likely have to listen to each story more than once to catch all of the mistakes.
To edit any of the text documents, open the .docx files in Google Docs and adjust the page margins to 0.5”.
Applicable to students as young as 1st graders, and as old as middle schoolers depending on reading level.
