Description

How much is your word worth? Spell and Solve is a fun and challenging word work activity that can be used with ANY list of spelling or vocabulary words! Word work and math are integrated as students solve problems to figure out how much a word is worth. Each letter has a value that students have to figure out, then add the values of each letter in the word to determine the total value. This set focuses on mental math, multiplication, and addition.

Spell and Solve is perfect for spelling, word work, and math stations and early finishers! Also included are recording sheets for 10, 15, and 25 word lists. These sheets have space for students to write the words, a number sentence for each word, the value, and answer questions.

Save 25% by purchasing the Spell and Solve Bundle, which includes 8 Spell and Solve activities.

Spell and Solve with Pattern Blocks:

- Students find the value of each letter by multiplying the number on each pattern block by the number of sides on the polygon. Add the values of the letters to figure out the value of the entire word.

- A Teacher Reference page is included so teachers can quickly check the value of each letter. This can be handy if the teacher is working on math skills in a small group.

- I recommend printing one or more pages of the Spell and Solve page in color and laminating for durability. For a no prep option, the use of actual manipulatives is not required. Manipulatives may be used when appropriate and necessary.

*Please Note: Scratch paper may be necessary to solve number sentences on. Of course, answers will vary. Each student recording page is labeled with the manipulative and skills for teacher reference.

I am using this for my 2nd graders! Instead of multiplication, I am having my students add since that is more on level for my students, but I love how easy and interactive this makes my spelling rotation!
