Description
Judith S. Gould and Evan Jay Gould devised a graphic organizer that helps us to teach us how to write the typical 5-sentence paragraph. They call it the Four-Square Graphic Organizer, although it is really a 5-Square Organizer (or 5-Rectangle Organizer).
As you teach your class, even in Grade 1, to go from simple pictures and one-word captions to full-sentence paragraphs, you can apply the method to Mathematics. Note that the Math solution CAN be written entirely in sentences, but we don't do that because it would take so many sentences and would lose the advantages of the short-hand form.
