Description

This is a great writing assignment to teach your kids about writing expository/procedural articles. It is particularly powerful for students that always default to writing stories (or English Language Learners ELL {English Second Language}), even when the topic or prompt doesn't warrant a story. It's also an excellent activity to hone all your students' editing skills, and polish their digital organization and presentation skills on electronic documents because they'll be writing on familiar topics, which makes this a very accessible assignment for all students.

Your students will choose their favorite activity and create a recipe for doing it! They'll write a short descriptive paragraph explaining the activity and/or why it's fun, list the ingredients, and then write a procedure for carrying it out.

This download includes detailed instructions, a well laid out exemplar, and a marking rubric. Your students will need access to Google Docs or Microsoft Word.

We decided to do a cooking show to keep everyone interacting with one another! This was great for them to show procedural writing steps.
