Writing and Solving One-Step Equations

After this lesson, students will be able to write and solve one step equations to solve problems using inverse operations according to the Common Core Math Standards. This is one of the units in the Expressions, Equations and Inequalities Bundle. This lesson is also part of our 7th Grade Yearlong Curriculum.

Students will begin by reviewing the meaning of some main vocabulary terms such as:

• Equation

• Solution

• Inverse Operations

Students will be given several examples of One-Step Equations and they will be instructed on how to solve these equations by applying some procedural steps using Inverse Operations. Students will identify the operation being performed and then they will have to add, subtract, multiply, or divide on both sides of the equation to solve.
