With over 20 years of experience teaching kindergarten and first grade, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in primary ELA and math. Experience

With over 20 years of experience teaching kindergarten and first grade, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in primary ELA and math. Teaching style
I believe that a positive classroom environment begins with positive, respectful relationships between my students and me. My teaching style is loving and caring, always thinking about the whole child. I run a structured classroom and have high expectations. My goal is to have happy, engaged students who love learning and have a strong, positive character.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I am honored to have been nominated for the Golden Apple Award. I believe I was nominated for putting my heart and my soul, as well as many, many hours into finding new, interesting, and fun ways to deliver instruction... especially the dry stuff! I also put a lot of thought and time into creating a classroom environment that was inviting, warm, and engaging, making students feel welcome and important.
My own education history
My academic journey began at Northeastern Illinois University, where I received my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. I furthered my education at National Louis University with a Master's of Education in Interdisciplinary Studies in Curriculum and Instruction. This extensive education, along with my time in the classroom, has given me a deep understanding of curriculum development and student engagement strategies, enabling me to create resources that are informative, fun, and engaging.
Additional biographical information
In addition to my work in education, I enjoy reading, exercising, and spending time with my family. I have two grown sons, two lovely daughters-in-law, and four wonderful grandchildren! Three grandchildren live in Iowa, which is about a 6 hour drive. We visit as often as possible. I have one granddaughter in Melbourne, Australia. I don't get to see her (and her mommy and daddy) often enough, but it has created a reason to travel to the other side of the world to visit, which I've done three times so far.
While teaching for 20 awesome years, my second, self-imposed job was creating engaging curriculum materials to use with my students and share with my colleagues. Now that I'm retired, I can spend much more time creating. It makes me very happy!
