This is a great review activity, or can be used as some introductory notes on the major cell parts as well as the eight life functions necessary for survival. I call the life functions "RRREGNTS" as a mneumonic device. As NYS students they take a Regents exam (a state assessment) at the end of the year, so it is one of the ways I use to help students remember the eight life functions. In a hybrid model you can use this activity as live notes, or flip your classroom and provide a video for stu

This lab activity is designed for a hybrid class with some students mixed in that are all virtual learners.  I think it is important for students who are coming to school to get to manipulate science equipment and specimens (as long as it is safe to do so - COVID wise).  I have developed this lab so that students would and could be working side by side to complete the same lab, both with an “in person” and “online” options.  You’ll see throughout the lab that there are places where the instructi

Here is a free resource to use if your school is moving away from actual snow days in favor of going "all virtual" on snow days and being required to post or teach lessons. It is a generic science lab, that could be great and adapted well for all ages. There are places (highlighted in blue) where I remind students how to work the google doc, and places (highlighted in yellow) giving them additional hints that they may have questions on for an asynchronous model. This could be adapted multiple

Experience

I have been teaching High School Biology and Forensics for over 10 years. My school is a Google school, so that is most of my skillset.

Teaching style

Hands on activities are where I am most comfortable. I enjoy activities that get students thinking outside the box, and manipulating things whether it be data or lab materials, or cutting and pasting things for visual understanding. I want students continually questioning things, when they are uncomfortable in their knowledge and understanding, that is when they make the greatest strides.
