I have been providing lesson plans and resources to teachers around the world since the summer of 2010. My lesson plans and resources are unique because I pair them with high quality and award winning trade books.
Hi, my name is Amy Mackenzie.
I am on a mission to get rid of boring leveled readers!
As a former classroom teacher and reading interventionist I often found it difficult to “fit it all in.” Phonics, Word Study, Vocabulary Development, Reading Comprehension Work, Writing About Reading, Differentiated Instruction – ugh – Who has the time?
I also found that the books in the leveled library didn't engage my students. They were boring and had highly predictable story lines.
As a result, I began to use the award winning quality literature from my school and classroom libraries to teach reading. Soon, my students were asking for more books and looked forward to reading. I also began to integrate the key components of reading instruction into my reading lessons both for whole group and small group delivery. My students’ reading levels improved, test scores improved and a classroom community of readers was born.
I know how busy teachers’ lives can be. Finding the time to create new resources can be a daunting task in and of itself. That’s why I created Reading Comprehension Lessons. The lesson plans and resources that I began to create for my classroom were of no use filed away on my laptop. So today I am thrilled to share my lesson plans and resources with teachers who want to use the chapter and picture books they know and love to teach reading. I hope that my will make teaching reading a little bit easier and help students to discover and enjoy reading.
All of my lesson plans and resources support balanced literacy in a variety of instructional settings including Reader's Workshop, Literacy Centers, Daily 5, Cafe, etc. All of our lesson plans and resources are aligned with the Common Core Standards.

All of the lesson plans found on BookPagez.com
have been written based on proven best practices for literacy instruction and literacy acquisition.
Each reading comprehension lesson plan provides an opportunity for readers to build their vocabulary, improve fluency, and improve comprehension through verbal communication and through writing about their reading.
When children have an opportunity to engage with text in multiple ways, comprehension improves because the reader is activating multiple parts of their brain to fully engage with text.
All of my reading comprehension lesson plans are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. They are delivered as digital downloads.
