There are 20 designs featured here and each design's meaning is included as well. Each design and color is full of meaning and symbolism. By the end of the project your students will have Kente Cloth full of meaning. This handout is simple and easy to read. I know your students will love it! EmilyGlassSC@gmail.com

Are you constantly asking yourself "What should you teach? And when?" I felt the same way! That is why I have spent the last several years researching long range plans, talking with other art teachers, and writing gargantuan lists. These charts are the final product of years of sorting, thinking, and tweaking. This PDF contains 2 Scope and Sequences that are divided by "Elements & Principles" and "Media Skills" and cover K5-6th grade. These are my consistent go to when I’m planning. I can't tell

This is GREAT way to motivate your students to write about their Art! I use this with 3rd-5th graders. The simple questions get right to the point and let my students know what I want to read about. I will often post these beside art that's on display to reveal more meaning behind my little artists' works! Posting them in the hall and around my room lets my students know that their writings are important to me and I want them to take pride in talking about their art.

With this lesson plan, your students will WOW you with their Symbolic Self Portraits! Appropriate for 4th-8th grade, this lesson plan will get your students communicating ideas, thoughts, and stories through their art. Rather than leading them in traditional self portrait drawing, this lesson has students use symbols to tell viewers facts, stories, and experiences about themselves. My students' art completely blew me away and I was able to see a deeper, more thoughtful side to my little artists.

About the store

Experience

I teach K-5th grade ART at a rural elementary school in SC. We spend a lot of time making art, however I incorporate a lot of art history, art criticism and writing into my curriculum. I'm also experienced with integrating other subjects into the art curriculum. EmilyGlassSC@gmail.com

Teaching style

I love art for so many reasons, but my favorite thing about it is that it's HANDS ON! I want my students to dive in and experience art. Almost all of my classes begin with a demo of what to do and what not to do. I teach elementary so I have to use a lot of step by step instructions. Then we have independent work time. Then, clean up and line up.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Awarded several grants through Donors Choose and local foundations

My own education history

I have a Bachelors degree in Visual Arts with an emphasis on Graphic Design and a Masters in Art Education.
