I have received a proclamation from former NYS Senator Caesar Trunzo for my "foresight and dedication" in the recognition of one of her several funded grants to benefit the lives of children within the school system.
I began my career as a teacher of students who were classified Emotionally Disturbed and later taught students with mixed disabilities. Following these classroom experiences, I became my school district's behavior specialist where I wrote FBA's and BIP's and facilitated team meetings for grades K-12. I was also the district trainer in how to de-escalate behavior through CPI. The position was excessed and I was put back into the classroom after nearly 10 years. It was then that I realized our struggling learners needed to learn "how to learn" to be able to aquire, retain and apply what was being taught to them. With this experience and passion for teaching struggling learners, I developed research and evidence-based learnng tools, children's books, a children's music cd and other resources to support student learning and teaching methods. Therefore, I train and practice the paradigm shift of teaching "how to learn" while teaching " what to learn" which is often taught in isolation.
