Engaging infant activities for babies birth to 12 months old

Children will mimic adult movements during a music and movement experience.

Infants will respond to names of familiar people and objects.

Infants will experiment with vocalizations and sounds while observing a fingerplay and/or song.

Infants will engage in self-expression by experimenting with vocalization and sounds while listening to an adult singing.

Children will coordinate the use of large muscles to perform more complex tasks as they pass a large ball to a peer.

Infants will respond to musical rhythms and beats as they listen to songs and bells.

Children will, with minimal verbal prompting, practice active listening skills such as turning their body towards the speaker, remaining focused on the speaker, and holding thoughts/questions until the speaker is finished.

Children will demonstrate through conversations and play an understanding that the sun, moon and stars are always in the sky even if they can’t be seen while exploring the effect of sunlight on starlight through simulation.

Children will use a combination of large muscles in the arms, hands, legs, and feet while using playground balls to throw underhand, kick, and/or bounce and catch.

Children will use theirsenses to observe and explore in-depth materials provided by an adult as they look at water levels and lift bottles of water to predict their weight before putting them on a scale.

Children will use scientific inquiry skills to determine the loudest substitute for missing drumsticks.

Children will remain on topic during large group conversations following a read aloud of a story about simple machines.

Children will, with minimal verbal prompting, participate in a simple experiment using fruit to test whether it will sink or float.

Children will begin to engage in multiple back and forth communicative interaction with adults and peers while discussing their morning rituals.

Children will demonstrate balance, coordination and endurance and build muscle strength and flexibility as they participate in a shape jump game.

Children will use recently learned vocabulary during a group discussion about sending love waves.

Children will create a set equal to a given set (up to 5) with verbal prompting and encouragement while helping to set a table for 4.

Children will recognize and name uppercase and lowercase Ii as they use their bodies to form the letter.

Children will recognize and name the letter Ii and begin to understand that letters represent letter sounds, with prompting and support.
