I’m retired after 34 years in the classroom and now I’m sharing what works with other teachers in grades 3-5 to save them precious time! I enjoy using actives and projects that give students independence and allow creativity. When I taught 4/5 and looped with my students to 5/6 blended classes, the projects give me time to work with on grade level specific curriculum with the other group. Now I can’t imagine teaching any other way! Fourth graders are my favorite to teach but I've taught students in grades 4,5,6 and 7th and 8th grade math and Algebra, 1st grade and was also our district's K-12 Academic Achievement Specialist.
I believe in projects-based learning and use real life applications to learning. I am a hands-on kind of teacher and I LOVE using technology and infusing it into whatever lessons I can. I challenge all of my students and teach as if they are all gifted and talented because I've seen the difference when we believe in their ability to achieve higher than they expected. My students don't have to ask when they're going to use this because I try to provide real life applications so they know.
