Music for Minds in Motion

This is a 7 page power point presentation that I have used to introduce 5th - 8th graders to mallet instruments. The last three slides teach students a song using letter names instead of music notation. I designed it this way so that older students who have never learned to read music can learn a song quickly. This power point presentation introduces middle or high school aged students to Gamelan - the sacred music of Indonesia! The 12 slides teach students where Indonesia is, what Gamelan music is and what it is used for, and the names of the different instruments used in Gamelan ensemble. There are also some links to Gamelan music performances.

This presentation was designed for a middle school music class and would also be appropriate for high school! It goes through a list of historical events in the 60s that shaped music and culture. Then it introduces students to some musicians and songs that represent three popular genres of the 60s, R & B (Motown), Folk, and Rock. Each of the slides with pictures of musicians has a link to a song by that artist.

I designed this presentation while teaching a beginning group keyboard class to middle school students. The slides cover the following topics: -The difference between electric keyboards and acoustic pianos -How to find middle C -The musical alphabet and how to find the rest of the white key notes based on C -Finger numbers -Finger exercises to warm up

This is a google slide show for the children's song, The Old Gray Cat. It includes a video link to the song with guitar accompaniment. The slides guide pre-readers through the story as they sing the song. Children love to sing this song and act out the what the cat and mice are doing!
