This is the poster I use in my elementary art classrooms to briefly highlight the idea of Critique. We do critiques using the prompts: like, notice, and wonder. I ask students to share something you like (a compliment), something you notice (an observation), and something you wonder (a question) when critiquing another artist's work. Critiques can be whole class discussions, small group discussions, pair shares, or self-reflections. This poster provides a clear visual of the 3 prompts. I've inc

These are 6 variations of creating painted paper - one for each grade level. I use these instruction sheets taped to each table when creating painted paper with my students. I also write them on the board and use them as a reminder of the steps for myself. The finished results can be used for collage or as backgrounds for printmaking or drawing. About the store

Experience

I have taught as a teaching artist and art tutor for over 10 years, working with ages preschool - adult. I currently teach in 2 elementary schools as the art teacher for TK - 5th grade. I also love engaging my 4 year old in artmaking at home!

Teaching style

I focus on the process of making art. Students explore a variety of artistic media, gaining skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and sculpture. They experiment with materials and techniques and are inspired by contemporary artists. I work hard to build up students as artists, to encourage them to build their creativity, be an observer, understand how to communicate with images, and most of all to be engaged in the act of creating. I incorporate choice into my classrooms and am working my way towards TAB as a teaching and learning methodology.

My own education history

I received my BA in Studio Art & Geography from Middlebury College and my MFA in Visual Arts from Washington University in St. Louis. I primarily focused on printmaking.

Additional biographical information

I love teaching art and am excited to share some of my successful lessons here!
