This worksheet supports both secondary World History and ELAR. The topic is WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles that forced Germany to accept full responsibility for the war and the destruction it caused throughout Europe as a condition of their surrender. But it also gives students the opportunity to identify text evidence that supports the main idea that the treaty was utilized as a form of punishment than a vehicle for peace.

Blubber by Judy Blume-- Comprehension Activity Packet

Judy Blume's Blubber is a hard, but realistic look at the world of preteens as they clumsily navigate through the confusing landscape of peer acceptance and social appropriateness. It's the sensitivity of the subject matter of bullying that has placed this classic coming-of-age book on the "banned book" list in many school districts. Still, its timeless theme is an important topic to keep at the forefront of conversations for adults and children. This activities packet allows students opportuni

Allegory and Analysis of William Golding's "Lord of the Flies"--Writing Prompts

I have heard so many teachers say that it is very difficult to teach William Golding's "Lord of the Flies," but when you think of the symbolism and allegory that makes up the entire book, "Lord of the Flies" is a story that easily inspires philosophical conversations. I have compiled a variety of exercises in character analysis that will give older students the opportunity to write thought-provoking essays; preparing them for future assignments, exams, and creative writing courses.

Thomas Jefferson Dreams of a Northwest Passage

As an educator who has worked as a Social Studies teacher for the past 14 years, I have noticed that there are very few, if any, good easy reader books that feature early American History events outside of the First Thanksgiving. I have worked with secondary students with significant learning deficits for 12 of the 14 years of teaching social studies and have never found appropriate reading level history books that meet state standards for secondary social studies class. After years of looking f

From the Jacobins and their Reign of Terror to the Bolsheviks of the Russian Revolution, newfound power and influence in the wrong hands can turn a sad social existence into a miserable one.
