Teaching style

Through my years of teaching I assimilated methods and techniques to help students learn the “mechanics” of playing an instrument as well as elements of style, music theory and performance techniques. Teaching students to understand, read, count out loud, clap and play RHYTHMS accurately is one of the "mechanics" essential to all musicians. My mantra is, "If you can COUNT and CLAP the rhythms correctly, you will PLAY them correctly." JAZZ RHYTHMS and STYLE is a component of my JAZZ ENSEMBLE WARM UP products, focused not only on the rhythms but also ARTICULATION and STYLE. I tell my students, "Articulation defines the style."
