Experience

As the lead teacher in my district's elementary Language-Based Learning Disabilities program, my instructional focus is on utilizing language-based instruction in my own teaching as well as supporting classroom teachers in their use of language-based teaching strategies, accommodations, and modifications. I primarily utilize Orton-Gillingham based reading instruction. I also have training and experience in executive function support and intervention.

Teaching style

I believe in using multi-sensory experiences to activate student learning across the curriculum. I emphasize the process of learning with my students, reminding them every day that learning takes time and everyone can be successful given the right tools. I also enjoy finding opportunities to include my Boston Terriers in my teaching materials.

My own education history

With an M.Ed. in Elementary Education and Moderate Disabilities, I hold current teacher license in Elementary Education (1-6) and Teacher of Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8). I also completed my Associate certification in Orton-Gillingham reading instruction through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, and I am in the process of applying for certification at the Certified Level.

Additional biographical information

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my Boston Terriers, Murphy and Mabel. I also love to read, and occasionally I write children's stories for my students' enjoyment.
