A First–Then chart is a simple visual tool used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to increase cooperation, task completion, and independence—especially for children who benefit from visual structure. It shows the child what must happen first (a task or expectation) and what will happen next (a preferred reward, activity, or break). This structure reduces anxiety, clarifies expectations, and increases motivation because the child can see what is coming.
