These are two easy "chromatography" science experiments. I generally do the first experiment, which involves black markers and coffee filters, in the winter. When I am done with this experiment, the students make snowflakes out of their dried coffee filters and display them in the room.
The second experiment is a slight "twist" on the 1st. Instead of markers, black jelly beans are used. This is a fun way to reinforce chromatography/colors during spring or Easter.
