Description Decomposing fractions is no different than decomposing numbers or shapes. Students MUST acquire a basic understanding of how fractions are not only put together, but how they can be broken apart. Standards 4.NF.B.3.B Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Bridge to 10 (Strategy for adding 9)
I created this to teach my students about bridging to 10 when adding numbers 1-9 to 9 (like 6 + 9). We count to see how many circles are on the left side and count to see that there are 9 circles on the right side. We move one circle "over the bridge" to make 10 circles on the right side (so it becomes 5 + 10). Students know about making teen numbers when adding 10.
