Students love this high interest online math activity! Students will learn about the Pittsburgh Cookie table wedding tradition. Then they will step into the shoes of local bakers to fulfill orders for cookies. Students will use knowledge of multiplication (double digits) to solve problems by browsing online Pittsburgh bakeries.

Students work in teams to apply their math skills to plan a Journey to Mars. If the trip takes 6 months there, and 6 months home and you will stay for 6 months, how much food and water will your crew need? Use the "Important information" provided to figure it out! Then prepare a colorful poster displaying your calculations, results, and your rocket ship with your team members peeking out!

Welcome to this 4th, 5th and 6th-grade fun, multi-step, critical thinking, word problem math packet. I originally designed this for my 5th-grade classroom, but most of the pages can be used for gifted or high achieving students in both 4th and 6th grade. Egyptian Sphinx Math Ratio Problem FREE Grade 4 Gifted + 5th-6th Challenge Math
Here's a quick free challenge with the mystery of the Sphinx. Using a primary source photo, students measure, estimate, and use ratios to calculate the height of the Sphinx. Part of a ratio six pack for gifted grade 4 and grades 5 and 6, this activity is also included in an engaging unit for gifted grade 4 on pyramids.

Project Based Learning- Wedding Cookie Table Planning (Multiplication)
Students will pretend they are wedding planners and help the bride and groom plan for their wedding cookie table. Read about the Pittsburgh-based tradition within the project and use websites of local bakeries to develop price quotes for the client. Students must use multiplication and online tools to complete this activity.

Students get on the internet and perform a cost-analysis to determine if it is cheaper to ‘Build Your Own’ pizza or buy a Specialty Pizza at three different pizza shops. This document walks a student through step-by-step from writing a hypothesis to information gathering to calculations to forming their conclusion. Very basic math skills involved.
