This reference sheet includes a study guide that helps students remember basic musical dynamic markings and what they mean and then includes a quick quiz. I went a step farther and took a 1/2 point off if they spelled the Italian terms wrong! Spelling counts!
This sheet makes a great addition to a beginning band, orchestra, or choir notebook.
All directions/requirements for the project are included, as is scoring rubric, student note-taking study guide and Unit Quiz. Students work in groups to research the music and culture of an assigned country (country suggestions also provided), then write a paragraph to present to the class.
This quiz/test/worksheet asks students to identify steady beat, rhythm pattern, ta stick notation, ti-ti stick notation, and describe how a steady beat is similar to a heartbeat. This is a great tool to use as a pre and post test when completing a unit on steady beat vs. rhythm with your students.
Students demonstrate recognition and differentiation between the functions of ties and slurs in music by identifying correct definitions of each and labeling and drawing ties and slurs in notation examples. I use this quiz with 6th-8th grade students but it can also be used for high school. Be sure to follow me and leave a review so I can continue providing quality, practical resources like this one for awesome teachers like you!
Corresponding worksheets for a middle school class. I left it in Word document form so you can change the composers to suit your classroom lesson. One worksheet has a scramble of the last name, with the first name as a hint. Example: Wolfgang Amadeus RZMOTA The other worksheet has students match the last name of the composer to a famous piece they have written. (I tried to include pieces the students might recognize.)
This elegant 10 item quiz is ideal for a pre or post assessment of your students abilities in the area of classroom behavior, recorder knowledge, and rhythmic literacy. It includes multiple choice, T or F, and fill in the blank items.

When our district implemented benchmark testing in the middle of the fall semester, I wanted to connect it to what we were already doing in music class. These quizzes are built around songs we were learning at the time. This assessment is based on on a fundamental belief that we know what something is by knowing what it's not, which is one of the tenets of Dr. Edwin Gordon's Music Learning Theory (www.giml.org). You can change the titles and the pictures to go with what you are doing in class.
Students learn the C Major Scale with boomwhackers and use the listening map for "Painted Pony" inspired from the Spotlight on Music Curriculum 4th Grade edition.
