Bug Board: Problem Solving Tool

Created by

The Bug Board is a problem solving tool that students can use to work on solving their problems without immediate adult intervention. It will ask the student to think about the nature of their problem as well as possible solutions. This is a great component to add to any conflict resolution process already being used in a classroom setting. Students should be instructed on how to navigate the “Bug Board” and should be allowed to practice filling it out. Practice with use of I Messages should al

I LOVE sticky notes! I use them for everything in my classroom. I even grab them to record data if my data sheet isn't easy to reach. This works great but my data isn't always as organized as I would like. This handy little sheet solves that problem. Just fill out your sticky note and place it on a child's weekly data sheet. Quick sticky note data in an organized way! Amazing! -1 Sticky Note data sheet

Intervention Strategies for Struggling Math Learners

I found an RTI "If this... then this..." document for intervention instruction for Reading or ELA but never found one for Math. I put this together after college. It's not perfect or fool proof, but it's been effective in my experiences, and it does fill the void of an "If this...then this" piece for teaching math and doing RTI. Interventions include strategies for the following areas: -numeracy -fluency in math facts -computation -estimation -measurement -problem solving -geometry Hope yo

Respect Cards Behavior Reward System

The Respect Card system is a great way to reward good conduct! Students earn the respect card early in the year, and are given certain privileges (teacher's discretion). This puts the focus on the positive behavior. Cards are worn on a lanyard or yarn around the neck, and a contract is posted in the classroom. Students develop leadership skills, work toward a goal, and become responsible for their own behavior. It made a difference in my classroom!

ISS Classroom Rules

I used to spend every morning reading a list of close to 25 rules for my ISS classroom. One day, when doing some self evaluation, I realized that reading all of those rules and procedures were cutting into time that could be spent handing out assignments or tutoring/mentoring students assigned to In-School Suspension. I found that if students could do these 7 basic things then they usually were successful during their stay in ISS. I then printed off these "ISS Keys to Success" sheets and had
