New World Explorers: Report and Contract of Choice Activities
This is a contract of 20 choices to along with a brief written report assignment for our European Explorers unit in US History.
The students must complete a report with note cards & a bibliography for 65 points (or a "D"). To earn a better grade, they choose alternate activities within various learning modalities to improve their points.

The Alternative Assessment document is intended to offer students choice in regards to how they want to demonstrate what they have learned. I started using this Alternative Assessment form with students that performed poorly on traditional tests. These directions offer learners the option to apply what they have learned regurgitating information for a test.

Learning an Instrument
This is a little powerpoint I put together to help my students stay true to their instrument goals and to help me keep track of it all for easy access. It also helps them to see other student's goals because it keeps them accountable for what they are learning as well as challenges them to reach for goals they may not have otherwise tried. It is also good for them because they can ask students with similar goals if they want to learn with them, or create a band. My 6th graders LOVED it.

Do you use a reading basal program in your school district? I am required to use a program like that, but wanted to create a way for my more advanced students to be able to move ahead, while still meeting the school requirements. This is the reading contract that I use with them. It covers a two week period, and can be adapted to your own room and reading program.
