Sorting it out: Student Groups Made Easy
It is often necessary to divide the classroom population into groups, pairs, or trios. These extremely simple “sorting” cards will allow any teacher to quickly and randomly separate the students into groups of 2, 3, or 4, or divide the entire class into 2, 3, or 4 teams, according to the shapes on the cards. Guided Reading Small Group Lesson Plan
I keep a stack of these charts on a clipboard- one for each group. The boxes on the side fit the 1 7/8 in square post-it notes. Under the lesson plans I have one page per student in the group with boxes which hold the sticky notes. I will add this page to my store as well. I use the sticky notes to keep anecdotal notes on students. I like to use sticky notes because I can stack them in one spot if I have multiple notes for one day.

Missing Homework Assignment Log Form
I keep a stack of these forms in my class, printed on lime green paper, right by my homework turn-in bin. If a student doesn't have their homework done, they fill out the form and submit it in place of the assignment. I keep all of the forms in my class binder for conferences, etc. It helps to have the students' excuses right there in their own handwriting when talking to parents about their grades. It also eliminates students' later claiming, "I know I turned that in..."

Missing Work Notice Cards
As I grade papers, I have a stack of these printed and ready to go. If a student is missing an assignment, I fill out a Missing Work Notice card and tape it to the back of our classroom door. The students are able to see exactly what they are missing, and I don't have to constantly check my grade book for missing work.
