Detailed rubric for grading students on classwork and class participation. Designed for ELA, but can be used in any course. Includes basics like preparedness and punctuality, but also quantifies some of the "stickier" areas of behavior in class, like openness to learning and presence in class. Discuss this with your students on the first day! Ask them to grade themselves on the 2nd day. Continue using it with students regularly and your classroom management problems will disappear!
