Mean Length of Utterance Visual

Handy little tool to help your students increase their MLU during sessions. This visual does not contain sentence starters to allow for natural and flexible language modeling for all of your students. The utterances range from 1-5 words and can be used in a group for different IEP goals. I personally use this in every session and I wear on my lanyard with my employee ID. I hope you use this as another tool in your speech toolbox. Thank you!!!

This activity is great for learning to describe and use adjectives, categorization, and increasing utterance length! I use this with my pre-k through 2nd grade and alter the difficulty by choosing different scoops and having different target productions. There are so many ways to use this activity, but here is my favorite: Start by asking the child to draw a cone and tell you what it is. Then the fun begins! Draw a describing scoop and have the child tell you whether or not it describes their c
