PROJECT - Measuring the Perimeter of Your Bedroom

In this project, the student should take a tape measure, ruler, or yardstick and measure the lengths of the walls of their bedroom. They add the measurements and compute the perimeter. Then they ask an adult or older sibling to do the same. Finally, they calculate the percent error based on the parent's / older sibling's measurements. This is a great "distance learning" project.

Newspaper Ad Project, Area, Percents, Proportions

Hands on activity to reinforce measurement skills and area calculations. Students calculate area of news articles and advertisement using a page from the newspaper and determine the percent area that is advertisement versus news articles. Students only need a ruler and a page from the newspaper to complete the activity. A blank table is provided for students to tabulate their results. This activity is perfect for independent or group work, and could also be used for a sub plan.
