A food chain shows how energy moves in an ecosystem as one organism eats another, starting with producers (plants) and moving up through consumers (herbivores, carnivores) to apex predators, with decomposers breaking everything down. For example, grass is eaten by a rabbit, then a fox, and finally bacteria. Dole these cards out to separate groups and have them arrange themselves into food chains or pass them out to the entire class and watch them find the other members of their food chain. Have
