Sticky Note Long Division Strategy

This is a strategy that I learned about awhile ago, but needed some way to explain it to parents so that they can use the same strategy at home. Students can keep this handout in their math journals to reference and it's also a nice go-to for classroom teachers who may have not heard of this strategy before! The strategy really helps kids go one step at a time and line up their numbers as the move through long division equations using the standard algorithm.

I have made a check list/guide for students to use to help them remember the steps of adding and subtracting larger numbers. When I printed this out to use with my students, I chose an example number and then modeled the drawings on the charts provided and then laminated the papers back to back to students to use as a reference. **Please note that you will need to draw in the chips following the steps. I used the colors of the text for each step so students could follow along.
