Fractional Number Lines - Fractions, Mixed Numbers & Decimals - Level 4 - FREE
Number lines - one step in difficulty from Level 3.
Number lines begin at whole numbers - not zero. Hence, the student can find improper fractions at any point by using a whole number location on the number line - and the student is off to the races.
If students are only given discrete mixed numbers, proper fractions, improper fractions and decimals, then they 'float' in isolation. These number lines connect the elements in an application setting.

What is 1?
This short slide show is meant to help students adjust their understanding of base ten blocks. In the lower grades students are taught that a flat represents 100, yet in 4th grade, we use the flat to represent one whole with each section representing a hundredth.
As you use this slide show, ask the students which base ten blocks are used to represent the WHOLE.
