ActivePaperMath - The Jammed Board Triangle Similarity Challenge Silver

This geometry challenge poses three levels of problems. I typically assign the first level to all students with the other two as a challenge. The problem involves a board that becomes jammed in a box. The students enter their answers into the spreadsheet and the cell will turn green if correct. Level 1 (box width) is solved using similar triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem. It should be accessible to most students. Level 2 (jam height) starts out the same but leads into some fairly intense app

This is an introductory lesson to Conditions of a Triangle. The focus of this lesson is solely on side lengths and not on angle measures. It's on Day 2 that I delve into whether or not triangles can be created using angle measures, and noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle. This lesson is aligned with Common Core Standard 7.G.2.

Download the ChatterPix app for ios Then kids choose one of the polygon cards and draw a color example of their polygon in the box. They will answer simple questions about the attributes and then use the attributes to write a who am I riddle about their assigned polygon. Once they have this sheet completed they will be able to use the chatterPix app to import their polygon and record their polygon saying their 30 second or less riddle!
