Graphing Polygons on the Coordinate Plane to Find Area/Perimeter

Created by
True Education
This activity asks the students to plot various ordered pairs on a coordinate plane and connect the points to make a polygon. Then they are expected to calculate the area and/or perimeter of each shape. The first worksheet has a square, two rectangles and a triangle. The triangle is starred to show higher level thinking. Each polygon is to be colored a different color. The second worksheet asks the students to plot the points of five polygons: a triangle, two rectangles and two composite f

Geometry Group/Practice Test: Lines Fall 2008 (Editable)

When my Geometry students are learning to apply concepts involving parallel lines, transversals, AIA's, AEA's, corresponding angles, and so forth, they need a lot of assistance from me and other students. Before giving them a summative assessment, I like to give them a group/practice test about a week prior, to give them a chance to study together before the "real" test a week later. (When I call it a "review," they treat it as a homework and just don't take it seriously!) They work in cooperati

Geometry Project - Geometry Town

Created by
Judy and Brett
Students will create a town map made of different geometric figures. They will demonstrate their knowledge of parallel and perpendicular lines, acute and obtuse angles, geometric shapes as well as many other geometric concepts through this creative and fun project. This project can be adapted to higher level geometry courses and high school classes. You can add parameters to the geometric shaped buildings (ex. must label the dimensions of the building given a certain area or perimeter).

Area Review Scavenger Hunt

This product is intended to be a fun review of how to find the area of different shapes, including rectangles, triangles, circles, and parallelograms. It is an engaging activity that allows students to get up out of their seat and practice measuring! I will be using this an introduction to our volume unit, plus I need students to get more practice at using a ruler, and this activity fits the bill!

Create your own coordinate plane picture.

The create your own coordinate plane picture project is a 3 or 4 class period assignment where students take a picture or logo and then they use ordered pairs to recreate the picture. This project guides the student through the process of creating, accessing, peer assessing, and finalizing their picture. Three rubrics are included, one for self assessment, peer assessment, and finally teacher assessment. I used this project in my math elective class and students love the differentiation comp

Lines of Symmetry Activity

Created by
Ana Jones
The learner will use this hands on activity to recognize lines of symmetry by cutting 15 figures, fold them to find its lines of symmetry and paste them in groups depending on the number of lines of symmetry each figure has. By manipulating and folding each figure to discover its lines of symmetry, the student will bring the abstract concept of symmetry to an easy manipulative concrete figure. The teacher will also have ans answer sheet that can be used to show the students the lines of symmetry

MATH-ITECTURE PROJECT - Having Students Recreate Famous World Structures

**THIS PROJECT IS ACCOMPANIED BY A 25-MINUTE VIDEO THAT ADVERTISES / DISPLAYS / HYPES THE PROJECT, ALONG WITH INTERVIEWS BY THE STUDENTS WHO CREATED THEIR PROJECTS (with hints, insight and suggestions).[Directly from the rubric sheet handed to students beforehand:] "MISSION: Greetings MATH-itect! Your goal is to create a 3-D model or poster of a historic building or any type of structure, and identify the various geometric shapes. In addition, you must also find the Area of one of your geometri
