A really good way to get students to practice their addition facts. They add the numbers across and down, and then add the totals together. I find this to be a fantastic activity when you just a have a little bit of time to fill or for early finishers who need a bit of extention. Most suitable for capable kindergarteners, grade one, and grade two students.

In this card game I have fused addition facts and subtraction/addition of two and three digit numbers with the elements of a "Pokemon" or "Yugioh" type monster battling game. As a teacher and a card game player myself, I knew children would be drawn into the fun of playing monsters and trying to defeat your opponents with them. Although this material helps students grasp the concept easier it is not necessary. Use any kind of material you have at hand such as buttons or glass beads.
